J. Rome + Jennifer Nettles Deliver an Incredible Performance of Michael Bolton’s ‘How Am I Supposed to Live Without You’ on ‘Duets’

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house on ‘Duets‘ after J. Rome and Jennifer Nettles’ powerful performance of Michael Bolton’s ‘How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,’ which J. Rome dedicated to his grandfather. After hearing how J. Rome’s grandfather was always his biggest supporter, right up until his passing, it was impossible not to feel the meaning behind the emotional performance.
J. Rome is undeniably the strongest performer on the show. For someone just tuning into the show, it would be hard to tell which of the two on stage was the recording artist and which one was the amateur. J. Rome can really hold his own and is extremely engaging. He doesn’t need to win the show to be a star. He’s already a star.
The performance was incredible, emotional and very meaningful. It was a true moment for everyone involved, and it was made more moving when J. Rome was overcome at the end. When the performance was finished, the judges were speechless. John Legend was the first to break the silence. He said, “I’m running out of nice things to say about J. Rome. He’s such a phenomenal vocalist.”
Robin Thicke was the next up to comment and all he could say was, “Yeah” and then applaud. He had no words. Kelly Clarkson was still in tears when it was her turn. She said in the most loving way possible, “I hate this. I love this show.” She was very openly moved by J. Rome’s performance, and rightfully so.
J. Rome jumped into first place with his amazing performance. We would have questioned the judging on the show if he hadn’t. He blew us away, as he usually does. Out of selfishness, we want him to stay on the show, but he better get off quick so he can start recording.

Pink Has Gallbladder Removed

When Pink tweeted a photo of herself in the hospital, hooked up to an IV but flashing a smile, she neglected to share the reason that she was admitted and seeking treatment other than “stomach flu.” Now, a different reason for her hospitalization has surfaced.
Pink apparently had her gallbladder removed, according to Life & Style.
A friend of the singer told the magazine, “At first she had these bad stomach pains and didn’t know what it was, and then it got really bad. They realized she needed to have her gallbladder taken out, so she did!”
The gallbladder issue meant that Pink had to cancel a planned performance at an LGBT fundraiser for President Obama in L.A. on June 6 and that she had to celebrate daughter Willow Sage’s first birthday while in the hospital.
The singer did seem a little bummed about how her medical problem messed with her plans to celebrate with her baby girl and to perform at a benefit for the leader of the free world.

Kelly Clarkson + Jason Farol Offer Up a ‘Hallelujah’ on ‘Duets’

Kelly Clarkson‘s team is struggling on ‘Duets.’ Both of her teammates — Jason Farol and Jordan Meredith — often land in the bottom of the judge’s voting. On tonight’s episode (June 7), which will feature the very first elimination of the brand new series, Clarkson and Farol teamed up with Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah.’
It’s a gorgeous song that is bolstered by currents of simplicity and power, and it’s tough to tackle. We’re glad to report that it was Farol’s most memorable performance on the show thus far. While there have only been three weeks of performances, he tended to be a bit forgettable every time.
This time out, he finally connected with Clarkson, an element that was lacking during prior performances. It was revealed that at first, his parents were not supportive of this endeavor, which was weighing on his mind and perhaps detracting from the matter at hand, which is performing. However, his parents have changed their tune and are allowing him to sing his.
He still ended up in the bottom, but was rescued from elimination by his coaches’ rankings.

John Legend + Bridget Carrington Shine with ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine’ on ‘Duets’

After doing an Aretha Franklin song last week, John Legend challenged Bridget Carrington to take on another Motown legend: the great Gladys Knight.
As John and Bridget rehearsed Gladys’ version of ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine,’ John said he doesn’t give a lot a notes to his partners — he just expects them to go out and do a great job. Which might mean he’s a little overpaid here. Dude, aren’t you supposed to be helping them get better?
But as it turned out, Bridget did just fine on her own. John served as a one-man Pip, and really, she didn’t need him there at all. It looks like she’s been singing a long time and graced more than a few stages, because confidence is not something she lacks. And unlike some of her fellow competitors, she doesn’t need to rely on her pro partner to prop up her voice, either.
Robin Thicke talked more about how much he loves Marvin Gaye’s songbook than he did about Bridget’s actual performance, but he did remember to throw in a comment about how she did a great job. Jennifer Nettles said Bridget’s lower register sounded a little muddy but her higher register was good, and Kelly Clarkson proclaimed the performance “awesome.”

‘Duets’ Week 3 Recap Alexis Foster Sent Home on Inspiration Episode

On tonight’s episode (June 7) of ‘Duets,’ the superstars and the amateurs performed songs that inspire the contestants. It was also the first elimination of the season, with Alexis Foster sent home. It was a shocking elimination.
Foster and Jason Farol were in the bottom. Farol sang ‘Me and Mrs. Jones’ a capella for his life, while Foster ripped through a soulful, voice-only rendition of ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.’ We thought she was better, but we’re not on the superstar panel, hanging out in the celeb lounge!
Three weeks in and there’s a clear top and a bottom, teamwise. Jennifer Nettles by far has the strongest assembled team, while Kelly Clarkson is struggling to help her charges emerge and open up.
Robin Thicke: First up was Alexis Foster. They partnered up for ‘Killing Me Softly.’ It was steamy and good. But was it great? No. For his second charge, the chart bottom dweller Olivia Chisholm, he forced to her to come out of her shell with Beyonce‘s ‘Crazy in Love,’ since it’s a fearless song done by a fearless pop diva. He wanted Liv to become fearless. Was she? Oh yes. She was tactile, confident, had legs for days and owned that short, sparkly flapper dress. But she was just okay as a singer. Still, it was a rebound from last week’s snoozefest.
Jennifer Nettles: The Sugarland singer and John Glosson tackled ‘How Great Thou Art.’ Glosson began the song a capella, joined by Nettles moments later. It was effective. J Rome sang ‘How Am I Supposed to Live Without You’ by Michael Bolton. The Bolt is a pop culture touchstone, and he really can sing, with that raspy heat. J. Rome is a smoother singer, but imparts just as much emotion, especially since the song reminded him of his late grandfather, with whom he sang ‘Amazing Grace’ before he died. He and Nettles delivered a quintessential “he said, she said” power ballad.
Kelly Clarkson: Clarkson and pink-haired Jordan Meredith, who has consistently landed in the bottom of the judge voting, tried to make a comeback with Miranda Lambert‘s ‘Mama’s Broken Heart.’ Meredith can sing, but she has lacked presence. Did she gain it by going barefoot? Yes. It was her best delivery thus far. Jason Farol tackled ‘Hallelujah’ with Clarkson and it was pretty, but he still feels like he is stuck in a shell. He ended up in the bottom, yet again. We think he is distracted by the fact that his parents didn’t support his decision to be a singer and participate in the show. But now his parents have changed their tune, we’re thankful it wasn’t too late for him to focus on his.
John Legend: Newbie Meleana Brown offered another strong showing with Alicia Keys‘ ‘If I Ain’t Got You.’ It was dinner party-ish, but if you like that style, this perf was all you. ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine’ was the song Legend tackled with Bridget Carrington. It was quite a quality jam between the two. We liked it.

Crazed Justin Bieber Fan Submits Her ‘Girlfriend’ Sing-Off Video

We have finally found the most awesome Belieber ever. And yes, there are plenty of awesome Beliebers out there. Millions of them, in fact. But for the Justin Bieber ‘Girlfriend’ perfume sing-off challenge, one hilarious Bieb-a-holic submitted her reworked version of his smash hit ‘Boyfriend,’ stalker-style. She gets an A++ for creativity, sass and style, although we suspect once her middle school friends get a load of this, she might have trouble securing a date.
Essentially, the Awesome Belieber pops off rhymes about not letting her boyfriend leave the house without a small recording device taped on his sleeve. O to the M to the G, that is beyond brilliant. She also says she’ll check his text messages, typical behavior of a psycho girlfriend.
She reasons, within the lyrical framework, that “I wouldn’t call it jealousy / Just looking out for you / Reading all your texts / Watching everything you do.” Spoken like a true nutjob in training.
We love how she changed the “swag, swag, swag” lyric to “nag, nag, nag.” That was beyond … we can’t even come up with a word for that level of verbal genius. Actually, we can. That’s called “lyrical swag, swag, swag.”

This is one chick you don’t want to take home to mom.
Wait, actually, we take that back. We love her, because she is clearly having fun, mugging for the camera, offering up the psycho stare and penned some clever and comical lyrics.
